Offline | Sounds like your Midland gearbox / diff has gone, quite common on early Ones and Coopers often drives but with a grinding noise. The oil for the gearbox is separate which explains why the engine oil level is ok. A few companies do recon boxes now for around £500 or more risky a good secondhand box for approx. £250-300 from breakers. All Cooper S and the later 2004 on Minis use stronger 5 & 6 speed Getrag gearboxes. ** RECONDITIONED ** BMW MINI GEARBOX 00/04 on eBay, also, Mini, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 31-May-08 11:19:07 BST) |

Offline | The car is back now, quick look seems to gear box, said looking at £1200 for replacement, £700 + VAT for box and £350 +VAT for fitting, £1200 for a gear box, I can't believe it, I really can't. Anyone know where can get a second hand one near Bolton area? |

Offline | 2004 MINI is almost certainly the later Getrag gearbox which won't fit unless you have the driveshafts, gearbox mounting and a few other bits changed to later type. There are some posts on this conversion here:- http://www.mini2.com/forum/faults-fi...onversion.html |

Offline | Right......Car been off road now for 5 days. Got the gear box and guy who are going to fit it sorted, going to stick a new clutch in as well. BWM £177 +Vat and a surcharge on my clutch that I may not get back. Is this right for a full clutch on 02 cooper?Think I'm going o get rid once its sorted, car was £14.700 new had TLC pack and Full BMW service history and was only service 4000 miles ago by BMW, and for the gear ox just to go and cause so much cost to replace, I can't take the risk of it happening in another 1000, nevermind 50.000. I love my mini but this is the kick in the teeth I could do with out, Thank you BWM for ruining my summer, no holiday now ![]() But if anyone else knows where i can get a new 02 Full clutch just reply. |

Offline | Try your local spares shop for a good quality clutch kit, it could well work out cheaper than the dealer, don`t use a reconditioned clutch kit as they are rubbish. Don`t let this set back put you off your mini, once you get it sorted the smile will come when you drive her again. |
