Offline | Mini One sunroof jammed open! Hi Guys This is my 1st post here so hello to you all ![]() I am here for some help with my sunroof. I have a 53 plate mini one - i bought it in 2006 and have had nothing but probs that my dealer seems unable or perhaps unwilling to help me with. I am now out of warranty as i only got 1 year with buying the car as a cherished mini but last week in the glorious sunshine my sunroof got stuck in the open position. It opened perfectly well and smoothly and then when i tried to close it it tried to close, moved a few inches and then took itself back to the fully open position again. i called my dealer for advise and they told me to bring it in and they would grease it for me. they apparently tried that and it didn't work. they now want to change me over £1200 (worst case scenario) for the cassette and/or motor! i paid them £20 to force it closed and remove the fuse and brought it home! I have heard rumoirs that there was TSB released for this fault but i cant find anything to support this. do any of you guys know if this is correct or if there is anything else i can do? we are looking at trading next year and i am gutted that this has happened now. we have also had issues with rattles and gears that i wont go into but are unresolved as the dealer just fobbed me off! Thanks for your help in advance... ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | £1200 ![]() Not sure about the Mini, but as far as i am aware, the sunroof works in much the same way as an electric window. If it finds itself working against excessive resistance (eg a finger) it will stop and/or reverse. It could be worth just checking the channels that the sunroof runs in, just in case anything has got lodged in there. If you have a manual, i'm sure there's a procedure in there for manually closing the sunroof. Normally involves taking off a small inspection panel and then using an allen key or spanner to wind it shut. I've never done it on a Mini, but i've seen it done and heard about it on BMW's so can't be too different i wouldn't have thought.. Good luck |

Offline | If the dealer is being truthful and has tested the motor, you are stuck. As was said though, if the track is in need of lube, the sunroof will reverse when the motor pulls too hard. The module has a little computer in it that measures current draw. Try lubing the tracks and see if that fixes it. I use a thin low temp grease (usually white) on a Q-tip and sparingly appply it inside the two tracks. The sunroof on the cars is pretty good, chances are that the tracks are just dry. My car is a 03 and I have lubed the tracks twice so far. |

Offline | Hi, my 52 mini did that to me last year!!! after a month of owning it!! It was all fine unitl the weather got warmer, as if heat affected it somehow?? it would start to close then shoot back and then not shut!! I to went to the dealer and they to greased it, It has been ok this past week but doesnt sound as smooth as it used to be. Gonna check its all greased nicely and keep an eye as the weather gets warmer. |
