Supercharger gone silent!

The whine from the supercharger on my '06 MCS has grown progressively less audible over the past 8 months to the point where it is now almost indistinguishable from the other noises emanating from under the hood. At this point there is no discernable loss of power.

The car has 40K km on it.
The intercooler has been cleaned.
The car is stock.

Anyone else experienced similar behavior?

Is this to be considered normal for the supercharger or does it hint of an impending failure?
