MINI Replacing Seat Levers...Early US Cars

Got a letter from MINI today saying I could take my March built "S" into the dealer to have new, better seat levers put in. Needless to say, the dealer doesn't have them yet, but good try anyway MINI/ Iguess I'll hold off on having that new expansion tank put in, and new tweeters until my seat levers come in....getting tired of all these dealer appointments (never had that with my Hondas, Suzukis, Saturns, etc.) Stil...love my MCS !!!

I went to have this done. You will also need to have the seatbacks replaced as the hole on the side is not big enough to fit the new handles. There are also 4 clips that need to be ordered so that the handle will work properly.

Chilli Red with White Roof, Chilli Pack, ASC+T, SSP, Climate Control,17" S-Spoke Alloys, Harmon Kardon, CD-Changer, Multi function steering wheel, White Stripes and BMW Aero Kit.

Are they going to do this retro-fitment in the UK too?

I'd like to not have to shout "push it DOWN!" all the time at my passengers...

Still amazes me that the car was released to market with levers no-one can use without reading the handbook...

I have a May build MCS which is around the time the new levers were introduced. How can I tell if I have the old or new ones?

2007 DS/W MCS LSD, sport suspension, Enkei RPM2 wheels
2002 EB/W MCS Sport package, Rogue intake, Borla exhaust, 15% pulley & Madness sway bar

If it says "PUSH" on it, and if lifting it does nothing, then you have the new one.

Hmmm, why do i have a feeling that if i called my dealership to ask about getting my levers fixed they'd have *no* idea what i was talking about.

I also wonder if they'll fix the damn squeaky seat (which they also deny any knowledge of) when/if they fix the levers.

Whatever.

I emailed the Owner's Lounge, because I have the old levers and this was the canned reply I got:

I apologize that you have not received a letter. I suggest you contact your MINI dealer to see if your car qualifies for the retrofit. I would also suggest that you consult with your service advisor about the rough idle. They are better equipped to handle your service questions.

MINI sent the dealers an e-mail the day AFTER I received my letter about the levers saying customer letters were being sent out in a few days! Anyway, they should know by now. My dealer fixed my squeaky seats the second time I took it in. The first tecnician said "no problem found". A second tech. found the problem and fixed it very nicely. What I do is copy the squeaky seat forum and the poll I posted, and give it to them!

Can't stock the parts, they can only be ordered VIN specific. Save yourself a trip and have the parts ordered before you get to the dealer. BTW, the seat backs will not be replaced, just modified. I got this bulletin about 2 months ago, it took them long enough to get the letters out!

By the way, Ken and everybody, welcome to the world of BMW! The cars are more fun, but the visits to the dealer are often. Look at it this way, BMW/ Mini likes to update their cars, usually new models see many recalls/ campaigns, the X5 has had no less than 10 in the 3 model years that have been out. Subaru has updated the WRX many times since its debut in the US and my car hasn't seen 1!

Had the work done today. It took the tech "all day" to do the job...their first one. They had to use the old seat backs and modify them (cut?) is my guess. Anyway, it was supposedly a whole bag-o-parts. They look and work superbly.
