Offline | Seat belt light not working on my MCS? Does anybody know when the seatbelt warning light should come on - In my new Cooper S it only seems to light up for a few seconds when I turn the car on but if I take off the belt while driving no warning appears ?? ![]() |

Offline | I don't think so - i think the light is a visual display of an airbag diagnostic test. if it detects an airbag problem, then it remains lit, otherwise it goes off. Gerry ![]() MINI Cooper, Chili Pack, Xenons, heated washers, MFSW, ASC+T, |

Offline | I can't remember if there is a dedicated airbag light at the moment, but i'm pretty sure that the airbags won't deplot if the seatbelt isn't fastened. ALternatively i could be barking up the completely wrong tree and talking a load of pish!! ![]() is there a separate airbag light? i'm too lazy to go out and check! Anyway - you are probably right - its useless! Gerry MINI Cooper, Chili Pack, Xenons, heated washers, MFSW, ASC+T, |

| MINI2 Master | I just came back from a drive in my MINI and noticed two indicators that are lacking. First off, I stopped in a layby and when I drove off I realised that my door wasn't quite shut properly. Now, if the car is clever enough to know not to try automatically locking the car at 12mph with the door open, why isn't it clever enough to beep and tell me about it? There's a warning light for the rear hatch and bonnet. Also, there is a light on the rev counter that looks to me like a seatbelt warning light. There is also a cable coming from each seatbelt clip. The light comes on briefly when I start the car, but I can start the engine and drive off without any warning about seat-belts not being done up. Is this correct? Incidentally, I've now found the source of one of my rattles. It wasn't the speedo, but the glove compartment door. When I open the glove compartment and pull down hard on the door, the noise stops. Having found the source of one rattle, my driver's seat has started to creak. It only does it when I move around and it actually doesn't bother me, but it will start to if it gets bad enough to creak while I'm driving along. I'm really starting to regret buying this car now. |

| The Power Cube | Re: Re: Seat belt light not working on my MCS? In the MINI manual it states that the light should reamin on until the seatbelts are engaged. So the real-life action of the indication light contradicts the manuals text.... Interesting - I wonder what other sections are fictional. ![]() ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

| MINI2 Master | Re: Re: Re: Seat belt light not working on my MCS? Since you don't give a proper location, I don't know if we're comparing like with like, but my UK manual states that the behaviour is different on different equipment levels (whatever that means). It says that on some cars, it comes on and goes off a short period after and on other cars it stays on until you put the seatbelt on. I have a theory. If you have heated seats, am I right in thinking that you also have a sensor to determine whether or not each seat is occupied? If so, I wonder if the presence of heated seats determines the behaviour. Having said that, wouldn't it be safe to assume that the driver's seat is occupied whenever the ignition is on and the car is moving? Unless, that is, your surname happens to be Bean. I think the warning light should at least work for the driver's side. |
