Whistling Climate Control

I have noticed that when the fan is above two (which is not particularly high) the climate control starts to whistle. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I've checked all the vents and can't see anything obvious.

Think a trip to the dealer is required..its a minor but annoying fault. Have to turn up the stereo to drown it out.

Any chance you've got a MINI accesory boot box?

Ken, it might not just be the official boot box...

Chris, check that there's nothing in the boot/trunk obstucting the vents that are built into the sill below where the rear hatch opens. These are needed to let the increased pressure out. If they're blocked the air pressure finds other ways out through all the little gaps - hence the whistle.

Arrow I have the same whistling noise....

And also have the manual A/C controls as well. And no, my boot vents are not obstructed at all. I think the noise is caused by the shape of the dashboard circular vent outlets and it is exarcebated by the air flow coming from these vents.

Not a biggie in my opinion. Not worth having your dealer take apart the dash for something that might not be readily fixable.

Mine does the same thing. It seems the air coming from the center vent above the speedometer sounds like someting is stuck in it. Other than that the interior is quiet (unless the sunroof is open).

Whilst I agree that it is a minor irritation and therefore not worth taking the dashboard apart to investigate then it is the first car I have been in with climate control that suffers from this particular problem. Plus when I've spent £830 on the option, I'd like it to be perfect.

Hmmm, Climate Control in the MINI is not the best. Don't know whether it's because one of the sensors is on the dashboard, but mine seems to be on full blast ALL the time. I wouldn't mind, but the fan is REALLY noisy, so I just use it manualy and turn the fan speed down

I agree though, it should be perfect. No excuses. BMW take note.

Basil,

Thanks. Agree with your sentiments. Its a pity because the climate control in my fathers 3 series is very good. The whistle on mine is there even when I use it manually. In fact when its on full blast the whistle seems to quieten (and I don't mean it gets drowned out by the fan noise!!) and then when it turns down the whistle is very loud.

Will get my dealer to investigate next week.

Christopher

Hi - I've got the exact same problem with my 3 week old Cooper S. It would be interesting to see what your dealers take is on this - I have to play the stereo that extra notch higher to drown it sometimes !

could be something stuck in the system - i had this once in a car after a service & it turned out to be a piece of paper from the pollen filter which had got stuck in the tubes somewhere. Easily rectified by the dealer without taking the dash apart.

Could be worth checking around the air intakes under the bonnet

The car goes in on Friday. Will let you know what it is. Interestingly it is very loud when the car is cold.

Maybe something doesn't fit right and leaves a small gap. That might explain the temp variation - the gap would change as things expand and contract...
