New poster here...I have done a search with no results. This is the second time it has happened, first time was right before I went to get some sensor problems looked at.
The window started working when I pulled up to the service department. The service manager told me it is caused by dirt sticking the window to the rubber gaskets. This time I ran a thin flexable dull knife along the rubber inside and out. No joy. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks.
The window motor should be more than powerful enough to activate the window against any dirt that may be on the window rubber. Mine has even broken my window loose when it was frozen shut.
When you attempt to activate the window, do you hear the motor turning? Does the window even try to move a little bit?
If you can hear the motor humming merrily away but the window does not move, you are going to have a faulty window regulator.
If the motor does not activate at all, there may be a problem with the toggle switch panel, the motor, the wiring, etc.
Had this same problem recently on my passenger window. It happened a couple of times where it wouldn't work but then the next day it would! Finally it stopped working completely.
Took it back to the dealers and they replaced the motor.
hahah so today i'm on the way to work, and i've been trying the window every day since saturday with no luck, but then today it suddenly starts working.
this is no good, as i'm taking it in to the dealer tomorrow morning, and i'd like to have it replaced if it's broken (the dealer is a little over 100 miles away, so it's a pain to take it in)
My driver side window is getting stuck daily, usually in the mornings, although once in the evening. If you persist at raising and lowering the window toggle, it eventually gets 'unstuck'. I know its not to the toggle because the window didn't come down once when I opened the car with the keyfob.
My car went into the dealer today and I get it back monday. I'll let you know if they come up with anything.
i'm having the same problem with my driverside window. it would open once in a blue moon, but most of the time, it wouldn't open. i don't think it's a problem with the toggle switch either, cuz even when i try to open it with the keyfob, it doesn't work. i'm taking it in to the dealer to have it looked at on tuesday. i just hope it won't magically work on tuesday.
Took my S to the dealer yesterday (about 130 miles away) for its first oil change service and when I got home I found that the passenger side window is stuck. Like others I too hear the click of a relay but no motor sound.
Right now its 110 out here so I don't want the windows open but its annoying to have these problems on such a neat little car.
I guess though it might work itself out like others have done.

well after spending the whole day (10am to 3:30 pm) at the dealers, my mini is all set up.
got there and explained that the window was stuck but was working now, they went ahead and replaced the motor anyway.
got the first oil change service (9k miles) and had them program the conveneience opening for the remote, HOWEVER, one thing that kinda ****ed me off is they charged me $46 for the labor of reprogramming it, as they said that should be done before you buy the car, and the dealer usually pays for that.
even after trying to explain that it SHOULD be standard equipment according to the manual, he wouldn't budge. so i went ahead and paid for it, as the summer isn't even close to being over, and it's so nice to be able to put the windows down as you walk out to the car and let the hot air out.
Well, I laughed when I read that the problem would fix itself but, for half a day, it did... my passenger window worked like a charm. But now its back to being broken again and, much to my stupidity, I see that I didn't quite close it all the way when it did work: I heard the wind coming through the tiny gap this afternoon.
Hopefully it will work again soon!
