Seat Lever Jammed

I stopped at the services for a rest and used the lever to make the seat go back a bit. Then when I was ready to set off the lever was jammed. I couldn't get the seat to go back. So was left a bit horizontal. I tried it on the passenger the seat and that was fine.

Anyone else had this problem?

This used to happen a lot.

Try moving the seat back on it's own (not the sliding seat direction, just the seat back) and it should eventually fix.

If not, slide the seat forward, then back, then try to adjust the seat back.

DON'T be forceful, there's a trick to it, but you might break it if not careful!

Bizarre. I had seats lock up on me before (a long while back) for the same reason (leaning back a little bit for a nap) and managed (after about 30 minutes or more!) to get them back in shape no problem.

This may solve your problem.

Kinster,

I'm not sure if this procedure will help you, but it may be worth a try:

http://www.r53w11.com/frontseats.htm

I realize your seat is stuck in the full back position, but maybe if you pull up on the lever mentioned in the second caption while pushing back, it may give and allow your seat to return to the upright position.

Good luck,
JS

Kinster, do you have the "old" handles, or is your car newer/been refitted? I hope you have the older kind, and this isn't the new handles acting up now, too....

I've just tried that. It works for the passenger seat, but not the drivers. While the backrest is back. I pull the lever up and it won't move.

Yeah - happened to me last night as i was about to drive home. Seat locked in half folded position and i had to drive back doubled up with my face about a foot from the steering wheel.... Dangerous as well as bloody uncomfortable.

I called Mini Emergency but they couldnt get there...coming round now....hope they can fix it

I've heard about quite a few people with this problem but I would have thought they'd have sorted it by now....my car was a October 2002 build....oh well...

If the seat gets stuck forwards and wont move at all i was told by my dealer to give it some force, since then they have replaced the seat and the mechanisum, everythings fine with the passenger seat now. Just the lumber support playing up in the drivers seat now to fix.

this happned to be at delivery. fortunately, it was the passenger seat that had the problem. I made an appointment and got it fixed. They said it had something to do with a rod in the adjuster mechanism.

Just an update....mini emergency couldn't fix it as apparrently it needed a whole new seat frame. The guy that came out was very nice though - knew all about MINI2.com and wanted to hear all about Mallory (he saw my sticker )

So anyway it went into the dealer and I should get it back today...not a moment too soon as I've been driving around in a vauxhall vectra for the last two days that the dealership hired for me....not a nice car....3.2 litre V6 though so i've been able to thrash it a bit on the motorway going to meetings . Nevermind, just means i'll appreciate my mini all the more when she gets back.
