Question problems with my MCS - quite worrying???

I took delivery of an mcs in november 2002. i have run it in and now have 2020 miles on the clock. all was fine until the other day i performed a quick gearchange from 1st in to 2nd with high revs and admittedly high power. when i reintroduced the clutch to the fly wheel there was a worrying amount of what i assume was engine shunt. It sounded and felt a bit like i had been kicked up the arse by a 20 tonne truck. does anyone else have this problem and can anyone suggest a remedy?? Is it my paranoia (this is my first geared car ovber 120bhp and i am not sure if this is quite normal)???

please pm me or email me as i am quite worried.

oh and another thing. has anyone had a problem with the water resistance of the rear light clusters. i washed my car with a medium strength power wash the other day and my rear lights now have patches of condensation on the interior. furthermore, for the 1st few days after the wash the boot would automatically open when the car's lights were turned off and it would only open when this was performed. i assume the condensation and the boot thing were related - i think it would make sense.

if anyone has had the same problem please get in touch.

Tie your kangaroo down sport, tie your kangaroo down...

You should be letting your clutch in smoothly - I think they call it clutch control ???

EB mini - a real pain in the ass

Does anyone else think EB MINI is a real pain in the butt.

It would seem from his previous reply that what he knows about car mechanics and partucularly those of the mini you could fit on the back of a standard postage stamp, with enough room to spare to draw a recognizeabble rendition of the bayeux tapestry.

listen mate, i think i speak for many, at leat prospectively, if this is the first contribution you've made to faults and fixes, in saying that its best if you just give your typing finger a rest when in this section.

As a suggestion, if you are bored, you could start a new section labelled 'how to drive your MCS like an OAP' or 'a forum for those who like to look at their MCS because its pretty'. Or even better you could sell your car on (they are selling for a premium, especially those that have been driven sensibly)to somone who will do more than admire it for its looks and simply **** off and never use this website again.

kind regards,

Scott gill

P.s. if anyone else thinks that this guy or gal is a pain in the ass please email me and we can start a hate forum for them and possible get them petitioned off the site.

quit worrying?

gillsg,
You have to look past EB MINI's biting wit and look for the constructive criticism in his posts.
You've gotten 2 very good suggestions for what you've described. They may even be related. The noise/jerk could be a bad motor mount and the bad motor mount could have been caused by an overzealous "speed shift". Or the noise/jerk could have just been the result of engaging an engine at high revs with a drivetrain at a lower speed. Remember, this is a supercharged engine and even a normal shift with a following liberal application of throttle can be quite a kick in the pants experience.
If you still hear some knocking during alternating acceleration/deceleration, have the dealer check the motor mounts.
If nothing seems wrong now, try to do a better job of shifting smoothly during spirited driving in the future. Speed shifting is fine for racing, but it does take a toll.

look guys i can take constructive criticism but i am not as naive or ionexperienced as to not to be able to recognise a bad gearchange and I am aware what it feels /sounds like when the fly wheel is introduced when spinning much faster than the drivetrain.
PErhaps i didnt explain properly. The shunt/noise was not one present throughout the whole car it came/comes from the engine bay and it sounds like the engine is moving slightly when its power is introduced to resistance from the road wheels.

My own conlusion was that it was bad mounts as the feeling/ noise experienced was similar to that i saw in a friends car after he had done 60000 miles (quite zealously), but I could not believe this was possible in such a new car. My inquiry was made predominantly to find out whether anyone ele has had the same or a similar problem at a similar mileage and thus confirm my suspicion. I did not expect as basic or patronising a reply as that from EB mini.

I thank you for your advice and intend, as the guy from hartge recommended to get my mounts checked by bmw at the nearest opportunity.

yours happily,
gillsg

P.s. thanks for the advice

Chill out!!

I did exactly the same thing to my engine mounts with my Golf VR6, they'll fix it under warranty (don't tell them you were ragging it though)

problems with my MCS - quit worrying?

(In my best Service Advisor voice from my old Toyota days)
Yes, sir, Mr. gillsg, that mount was definitely faulty from the factory. We'll have you fixed up and out of here in no time. Sorry about my mechanic's snickering. He just finished replacing a blown clutch under warranty
Seriously, we have all heard about some bad motor mounts. The way you described it, it just sounded like you left your foot in it. If that's not the case, sorry for the misunderstanding and don't let it put you off of MINI2.
