Red Cooper Headlight loose

Any one out there had a headlight come loose?

I was filling my windscreen washer bottle up this morning and noticed that one of my headlights was loose.

I will be taking it in to the dealers tomorrow and was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

Apparantly no-one looking in during that 4.5 hour period, but you never know, someone might have had this problem.

I've not heard of it though.

It turns out that the headlight was loose because one of the bolts holding it in place had broke - They had to replace the whole headlight unit because they could not remove the snapped end from the unit (Warranty Fix).

My brother works as a fitter for BMW UK at one of its main holding depot's (Thorne, South Yorkshire). When I asked him about the problem with the headlight he said that he had seen this happen a number of times - apparently the bolts are weak and can break easily if even slightly over tightened. He also said that the broken bolts can be removed and a replacement bolt fitted instead of replacing the whole headlight unit.

So for anyone out their thinking of removing headlights for any reason - please be careful when tightening the bolts.

Whilst filling my washer bottle after filling up with petrol tonight I noticed the exact same thing!!

The bolt holding the bottom edge of the passenger side headlight looks to have snapped and the whole thing is now a bit loose. Judging from the amount of dirt around the sheered end of the bolt it may have been like it for some time! Looks like I need to contact my dealer...
