Hello fellow 2003 CVT Owners

Does anyone of you notice if there is a change in your coolant color?? Mine is light brown already & have only 2,600 miles.
My build date is 9/6/02.

My coolant is still blue but it could also turn out brown in color fairly soon.

We have a '02 Cooper CVT with 4,500+ miles. Built 8/7/2002 (One month earlier than yours).

Just wondering if the cold climate contribute to this...since it was freezing winter we have here in Illinois and using the heater more frequently.

I notice the same thing with my old 99 Honda Civic.It's coolant seems constant not until we move from Arkansas to Illinois?

I just called my MINI Service Advisor regarding the coolant change of color.

He said it's normal for coolant to change color.

The issue of discolored coolant in the MINI was noted in the '02 models. There is a thread here that discusses this.

It seems that MINIUSA's stand on this is that the discoloration is a harmless result of an interaciton with the internals of the cooling system. That may be so, but I'd assume that the cooling system is pretty much the same in all MINI's so why isn't the discoloration seen in all MINIs? I've never received a meaningful answer.

The coolant color change seems to affect both models the Cooper and Cooper 'S'. I think that has been established already...
