Offline | Door Rattle Gurus...Please Help I know that rattles have been addressed before, and I have looked at all the FAQs and DIYs...even did a search, but my question is somewhat more specific. My rattle is not at the reflector as many seem to have been. My driver's door "buzzes" along the trailing edge it seems, but I can't seem to actually locate it. When the door is open (car stopped...not that dumb), and I tap on the trailing lower edge, there is a vibration...a buzzing. I haven't removed the panel yet, but I'm assuming (bad idea according to the late Benny Hill), there's a pin down there that needs some help or replacement. Just wondering if anybody had this "buzz" and addressed it. Thanks in advance! Offline | Door Rattle or seat belt I posted earlier but haven't seen a response yet. Hoping someone here might be able to help... Had the dealer fix the seat belt adjuster rattle. Their solution was to load it up with grease which didn't really fix the problem and created a new one that is much worse: Their grease gets all over the seat belt everytime it is retracted. Do you know how to get the B pillar cover off? I gotta get that grease outta there! |

Offline | Obehave; I'm going out there now to rip the panel off and tape it. I'll report back later. The armrest thing didn't make a difference though. Offline | Well, mine was NOT the styrofoam. The panel already had some black tape along the trailing lower edge of the panel, below the styrofoam. I added about four layers of electrical tape on top of the tape that was there, slapped everything back together, and voila! The buzz be gone!!! Thanks Obehave for your input. Offline | They're T-30s , not 35s. Go to the technical section in the header of MINI2 here, and then go to the DYI section. There's an excellent section on removing door panels (by MONSTA I believe). I removed the tweeter/door handle surround (as suggested) before I removed the panel. How do I do my "car profile"? My car is one of the world's first MCSs...built on 3/1/02. Offline | obehave, Do you think weatherstripping would work in place of felt or tape or would it be too thick? Thanks, retroom 2003 MC,LY/W, sport package, wht wheels, cruise, chrome, Kaleido cloth/black, OB computer |

Offline | Do you think Velcro Tape (the fluffy side - can't remember if that's the hook or loop side) would work well? It has good adhesive on it and wouldn't go brittle On your pics do you have tape over the clips in the doors? My dealer has had two attempts at fixing this. Both times it's worked for a week or so but come back. I think they've been putting grease on bits which ain't a permanent solution. Thanks, KenL Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | I just ordered 10' of 2" wide, 1/8" thick adhesived backed F-13 gray felt from McMaster-Carr. It was 74¢/ft, part number 87555K16. I bought it to help stifle some of the annoying noises (other than what eminates from the passenger side seat when it's occupied) ![]() Thanks for the tip Obe! |

Offline | Couple more questions, sorry. Do any of the clips break when you yank off the door panel? Is it easy to get the panel off and on, is it a one person job or do you need help? Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | Obehave, thanks for all the info, I was getting tired of keeping my elbow on the door panel. CurtP, just ordered some felt tape, I have been looking for that stuff. Funny it was on catalogue page #3214, must be a BIG catalogue! I will give a full report once this next project is done.... Offline | The catalog is *HUGE*! I have a fairly new one too. I should take a picture of that monster and post it ![]() Just as a FYI, the F-13 denotes the quality of the felt. The lower the number, the higher density and better quality it is. I figured for the function I'm going to use it, the F-13 was high enough quality while remaining pretty inexpensive. I also thought that if it was a bit less dense, it would compress better as well -- 1/8" seems pretty thick. McMaster-Carr rocks. I can find just about anything I need, especially stainless steel screws, nuts and bolts, cheaper than I can get locally including the shipping. They're fast too -- I ordered yesterday evening, and was just informed the box was sitting on the doorstep already! I will have to wait to see if I will still have a buzzing passenger door panel though -- it's finally getting replaced by the dealership! Whoot! |

Offline | Obehave Was Right ! My "fix" didn't last. The buzz reappeared late last week. So...I took the panel off again, removed my layers of electrical tape (they were coming loose anyway, and put very thin adhesive backed foam weatherstripping (like 1/8") on the styrofoam at the upper rear corner and along the upper trailing edge. Seems to have done the trick; the panel definitely went on tighter too.
