Cooper S gone back for a few things...

For those interested.

My Cooper S has gone back today for a few things.

Steering:
This is the reason it really went in for. A weird noise coming from the steering. Sounds a bit like electronic interference from inside the car, and there's a 'whooshing' kind of noise from under the hood. Initial thoughts are it's a problem with the pump, but it's being investigate by the guys at Wollaston.

While it's in, I've asked them to look at/fix some other little things that have cropped up.

Paint defects:
'Dust' under paint on front of bonnet, chip in paint on rear of roof, all from the factory.
'Runs' in the paint or lacquer on the rear bumper/spoiler being investigated. Might be something in the wax, so not sure.

Trim:
Small black plastic strip between the front and rear side windows on the passenger was loose at the bottom end.

Unknown:
A slight knocking noise from the rear passenger side somewhere, checked all the obvious and cant pin the damned thing down.

I'll keep you all posted.

Service was as usual top notch from the Wollaston folk.

Paul

I doubt the paint will be done, but you never know. I think that will need to be re-booked. The 'rattle' at the rear is a strange one, I wasn't going to mention most of this until the service, and I had hoped to pin it down by then!

Paul. Keep in touch re. the rattle from passenger side rear; I've had the same thing on my S from new. Went back to wollaston MINI with it and they failed to locate the problem. Two months down the line and it's still driving me bonkers! Is the noise constant, or is it worse in dry conditions?? I'd be interested to know the outcome....

Never even thought to check differences dry/wet differences. I have noticed that sometimes it seems more noticible than others.

No.

Although I only noticed the steering problem when I switched the stereo off!

Paul, I would suggest for you to try a clay bar to remove the paint contamination in the bonnet. It might be well embedded in the clearcoat.

The chip in the roof can also be easily fixed.

I would not recommend performing a paint respray which is what I suspect the dealer would try to do, if, they want to address your issues.

Yeah mines been in the dealer for this rattle in the back, i asked them to check the seatbelt housing in the rear and they dismantled that, then for some strange reason they changed the exhaust mounts aswell anyway they cured the rattle from the rear.

- Anyone get a creak from their steering column inside the car? mines waiting parts from germany to cure this problem apparently there has been a design change to 2003 cars but 2002 mods are not ready yet?

Cars back, I think it's all sorted.

Mystery rattle was the rear seat latch on the passenger side.

They seem to have sorted out the little paint defects well (without repainting, well the chip they painted, but the rest they didn't have to).

The steering pump was replaced, noise fixed.

Very quick turnaround, no need to grumble with the service yet!

Good to hear they sorted out the problems you had Paul

But, they must know who you are. I mean that you run this web-site, not your international Mafia links
If they cannot sort your cars problems out first time what hope is there for the rest of us

OK, let me take some of that back.

The noise from the steering is still there.

At least we know it's not the pump, but back again it's going to have to go....

You take your Mini to the same dealership as EVO right?

When you go in next ask them how come their TLC wasn't invalidated when they had the Hartge conversion?

Thanks
