I rev my MC to 4k rpm and I shift up...

reach 4k rpm foot off accelerator and then drop the clutch and move up a gear.

Everytime I do this the engine\exhaust BroooOOOOms, as if I were still pressing the accenerator hard!!

Does the engine rev up while the clutch is depressed????

Maybe it's the "lift off" engine cackle you're hearing which is luuuurvly

Sounds like there's a problem with the engine management system
I'd take it into the dealer if I were you.

I noticed that today too...I decided to push my MCS on the way home and few times I had the exhaust thunderclap...I actually thought it was kinda cool . Up until now, I've never really noticed it before, but if it's a problem, I guess I'll have to point it out to my dealer also. When I first got my car, it sounded like it would backfire at lower revs every now and then too, but that went away...sound familiar? Glad I read about this before my Wednesday morning appointment. Guess I'll have to shift at over 4K again on my way to work tomorrow...to double check.

I wonder if that, the super black/sooty exhaust, and 23MPG tops are all related. Engine seems to like to run really, really rich. Combine that with the yo-yo, surge, CA fuel mixtures, and I have no clue what "normal" with this engine...

GTMini, by design the Cooper S exhaust burbles and pops. And if you're lucky you can get it to 'bang'... I find that a satisfying din.

cool...glad it's normal since I do enjoy the various engine sounds. Makes it feel even sportier. haha. Just about every day I'm torn between listening to my music or just turning the radio off and enjoying the engine sounds. decisions, decisions...

On my 4000RPM-redline shifting this morning, I didn't get the boom, so it must have been a freak occurence yesterday.

..and I'm not sure if I read the 2nd gear cold stutter thread, but I notice the MCS doesn't always seem to do too well in second gear unless the revs are fairly up already...I just assume that second gear is just a bit taller than expected (for me, getting a smooth 1st-2nd shift is still kind of hit and miss on this car...sometimes the revs just really don't want to come down when shifting out of 1st if you go over 3500RPM)

Folks got my car back from the dealer and they had diagnosed my problem from resonance from the back box. So they replacd it!
