Thumbs down Rattle Buzz Buzz Rattle

MCS No.2 arrived yesterday with 8 miles on the speedo.

As it's MCS No.2 I didn't need more than 10 minutes with sales person other than a quick Sat Nav demo.

Journey home was 12 buzz buzz rattle rattle buzz buzz miles. I don't know whats p*ssed me off more BMW for letting the car out of factory like this or lazy BMW dealer chucking a bucket of water over the car and delivering it in said condition

OK the upsides in my 12 miles so far .... Ride is just a that much more pleasant with new damper settings, nothing major, more finer tuning type refinement.

Noticed they have ditched the stupid woolly filled heater air vents for proper moulded plastic design and the climate control leaves my MCS No.1 Air Con system for dead worth every extra £

Was the buzzing and rattling something to do with the speakers? I have the Harman Karadon upgrade and the sound was really bad when I picked it up. I thought that I may have blown the speakers, but it turns out that the moulding is loose. The dealer is going to fix it after they return in September from their month vacation.

I'd be lost if I had somewhere to be!

I don't have HK speakers and the racket is there with the radio off!

Nah this is more like a misfitting dashboard probably a broken clip or something stupid along those lines

Re: buzz buzz rattle

It's very disappointing that two years after production many cars are still coming out of the factory with rattles and squeaks. Im no expert, but I think it's more to do with the company that produces the plastics rather than BMW. There seems to be slight differences in the quality of the panels, plastics and trim etc. Even so, my car came out of the factory with obvious ill fitting trim on the passenger side seatbelt panel. This should have been obvious to see while the car was being built.

I think there's just not enough sound proofing. Also some of the clips etc need more padding around them.

Cost cutting I think. There is so much technology in the MINI for the price savings had to be made somewhere.

Yes. I think the rear of the car, especially the boot area, could benefit from sound proofing.

MCS, No 2 has just arrived with me 2, collected end of June. Second car supplied as exchange due to all the rattle/vibration problems with the first. First the good points, car generally handles better and offers better ride together with Climate that finally works. Bad side are more rattles than the first one, principally from doors, seatbelt mountings and dash.

For an £18K car the quality is dire and there is no excuse for BMW not to have got this sorted out by now. Going back to the dealer in 2 weeks to get sorted, hopefully this isn't just going to be the first of many as with the first. Quick question are your doors magnesium? I wonder if due to the low volume these haven't been updated as quickly as the dark grey panels.

You are dead right and whats more I told my BMW dealer today that BMW/MINI's QC is pathetic. I have just done 1300 miles in a brand new rental Ford Focus not a single problem or quality issue. Prior to that I did 1000 miles in another rental this time an 8000 mile odd Astra and again not a single quality issue or rattle or squeak... Rentals were whilst waiting for MCS to arrive so to get into a brand new 8 mile MCS and then hear all that racket is a massive let down ARE YOU READING THIS MR BMW

I too have experienced a few rattles and buzzes in my 3 month old DS/B S. It's been at the dealers all week now, narrowing down on the root causes and having padding installed. The dealer has been great about sorting the problems, with great attention to getting it right. It takes time though, which can be a bit frustrating - the 318i touring I'm currently driving isn't nearly as much fun! Compared to the BM however, the MCS's dash mouldings seem fragile. You can push about the BM's dash to your heart's content and there's ne'er a squeek or buzz. Solid as a rock - if only our MINIs were the same.....

What padding is being fitted? Is it a standard BMW mod or the dealer's own cure for the problem?

i too have rattle from the speaker the first day i got my car (right door lower speaker, i have H/K upgrade). I went to dealer then they checked for 5 mins and says they heard the rattle and they will put in a new speaker for me. I was quite surprise cuz i thought all it needed was some padding. AFter they fit in the new speaker a week later, the rattle is gone but now it's slowly sneaking back after a week. There is a different rattle right behind the speaker (this time it's there even when stereo is not on). I guess it's another trip to the dealer again.

My MC is at my dealers for the 10th time to finally(?) cure the rattles. I'm not gullible, it's just that you cure one rattle, and another appears - you cure the new rattle and the old one comes back.....

This is their last chance, after which I'll reject the car on the basis that I've never accepted it as satisfactory quality even after 12mth ownership.

The only problem is, will a replacement be any better????

I considered rejecting mine at one stage but came to the same conclusion as you. These problems haven't yet been ironed out at the production stage. After ten months of ownership my car seems to be running reliably and many of the rattles have been fixed. As you said, the problem is you fix one rattle only for another to appear soon after. Mine has just developed the horrible squeaky drivers seat!

That must be the one I had a few months ago and my dealer said he had never seen it before on a MCS! I was the first ever MCS seat squeak! Yeah Right

Great thing is now onwing 2 MCS His/Hers I now have proven, at long last, that my cars 10 visits to cure slow fuel fill last 15 litres don't want to go in and garage ended up saying my car was fine IT'S ME!! was 100% total boll*x as my wifes brand new rattley buzz buzz MCS takes the fuel literally in one go and cuts off just 4 litres from full and even those last 4 litres go in very fast

I have told the garage so they can go rethink the bullsh-t with whats wrong with my MCS

Shame BMW UK don't take any of these niggles seriously whilst counting our cash
