Offline | Hi, my MCS is only 8 weeks old and the windscreen has cracked. Starts in the bottom lefthand corner and extends to the centre of screen about 200mm, and getting longer by the day. Has anyone else had this problem in OZ ? did a search and it seems to happen quite often in the UK and USA. |

Offline | May not necessarily get it fixed in your own state, either. Heard about a Vic Mini with a broken rear window. They transported the car to Adelaide to have the new one fitted, then sent it back. Cheaper than shipping the window. Bad news is that it was done at the owner's cost (ouch!) ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | Went in to BMW today to get windscreen checked. BMW said crack was caused by a stone chip. This stone chip was microscopic, I couldn't even see it until I washed the car. All I can say is, stay away from anything that might strike the windscreen, as it has all the strength of clingwrap! BMW said claim it on your insurance, yeh rite, thanks for that piece of advice. New screen cost about $390 + $300-$400 labour. BMW has them in stock (rolls of clingwrap are easy to store) LOL. Lucky the MCS is such a blast to drive......... |

Offline | doesn't sound like a stone induced crack to me, but most insurance policies do offer one screen per year free without any impact on your no claim bonus and no excess is payable I was showered with rocks by a car in front on one of the mini2 drives a few months back and got a bullseye type chip in mine - novus came to my house and repaired it for $60! I would only let the dealer change the screen though - not anyone else ![]() ![]() |

Offline | I had a problem with the windscreen cracking on its own. Fortunately the crack was on the inside (5cm in length) so it was obviously not hit by a stone. I had driven from Sydney to Adelaide. Adelaide Mini replaced the windscreen under warrenty without any grief. Its a bit of a worry though... Offline | Hi Red5, This seems to be a pretty common problem judging by all the posts related to Cracked Windscreens. The above is a quoted response to a number of US Windscreen problems. Try MINI2 search crack* winds* in MINI2 Forums You will get a heap of threads on the same subject. Good luck. |

Offline | Hi Trelo, there has to be more to this problem than stone chips!!!! I think the srceen can become too stressed if it is not fitted properly or its too thin or both who knows? BMW thats who, they should fix this on waranty not owners insurance. Your cars spec looks very nice I might do some mods along the same lines, my car goes in to BMW for its new windscreen in 3 weeks. i'll post on how well its fitted. |

Offline | My Mini was about 2 weeks old when it received it's first rock hit the windsheild. Fingers crossed it has not go any bigger in nearly 2 years. I haven't even worried about it because living in the country it get's hit evertime I go on the highway with rocks and stones. I take mine down country dirt roads regualry, not a problem. So I doubt a stone would put a 200mm crack down the window. From my experence it takes a good 6-7 months before it would get that size. I think you body (or Window) would have moved and put pressure on the glass. Offline | My First Cooper (dec01 Built) Received A Cracked Screen 2 Weeks After I Got It In March 02, On The Way To The Gold Coast. It Seemed To Open Up Over Nite While Parked In The Car Park. Because The Car Was So New I Argued The Point With My Dealer & They Helped Me With The New Screen. No Problems With The Next 2 Mcs" . |
