Refuelling problem (LHD Cooper)

[edit]nm, it was just that gas station. Those in Toronto might want to avoid the refurbished Petro Canada on Avenue between St Clair and Eglington.

After driving for a week, I went to refuel and can't. As soon as the gas starts flowing, the pump locks up - for good reason. A puddle of gas is forming underneath the car by the rear driver side wheel. It seems to exiting via some sort of overflow mechanism as the side of the car was covered in it initially. A second pump didn't help, though I was a bit more cautious so the fuel only came out of the bottom of the car.

As the local dealerships service department is closed on the weekend, I'm wondering what might be the problem. As I haven't refuelled for awhile, I'm sure the tank isn't full.

You seem to have a vacuum problem in your fuel line. Perhaps a punctured or broken line.

Take it back to the dealer as soon as possible, it does not sound normal. I don't have such refueling problems with my Cooper.

Fuel leaks are not only harmful to the environment but dangerous.

I refuelled at a different station and there was no leak. Checked under the car the following morning and all seems fine
