Offline | Paint problem at rear roof/boot hinges Just finished over five hours of grueling (because of the heat) polish and shine on the new MINI and I thought I had gotten some residue wax on the paint. The location was directly above the boot hinge location, between the boot lid and the roof. Checked further as I had used Zaino, with usually no residue, and found that it wasn't a residue problem but rather a painting problem. When the body and roof were painted, the boot lid must have been up and the roof didn't receive its coat of paint. Thinking it may be a unique problem to my car, I went to the dealer's lot to examine a few retail cars. Lo and behold, a brand new solid black's left hinge was unpainted and both hinges on the new yellow/black car had the same problem. Is this a robot programming issue? How many cars does this problem affect? And what should I do? I intend to call my MSM tomorrow a.m. to report the problem and ask how they intend to fix it. Needless to say, I'm not happy and I think that there may be a lot more cars out there with this issue! NE1 else with this problem or notice it on other cars? Input is appreciated. |

Offline | Just had a look at our roof gap where it joins the boot ( Jan 03 Cooper Silver / Black roof ) no sign of any missing paint as described. Perhaps the dealer had to spray your roof themselves after ordering the wrong colour, this would of course explain the bad workmanship !! I agree its not good enough, good luck in getting it sorted. |

Offline | I don't think this is a "Robot" error, rather a problem in the way the black paint cures. I have seen this phenomenon in several dark colored cars from other makes. |

Offline | I can't believe that this issue is only on our car (and the three on the dealer's lot). The attached picture (above) pretty clearly shows the almost white 1.5-2"L x 1/8"W area that appears to lack any paint depth. Again, maybe its the residue from the protective coat on the cars in transit, but we think not. It IS a really hard area to reach. Aren't there any other MINI lovers with black roof cars? Check the pictures and then check your car. |

Offline | Glad to here yours is good to go! Just came from the dealer and they have offerred to discuss with BMW quality control on Monday and most likely send the car to the paint shop. There was similar "damage" on at least two other new arrivals at the dealership, so it isn't so unique as we might have thought. MSM said it appeared that the primer was showing through and you won't see it on darker cars because they have a dark color primer. |
