Static electricity zaps

Hey guys,

Everytime I go in my mini I get a HUGE static shock when i get out of the car and touch it (either rubbing when i step out, or when i close the door)

Any ideas on how to minimise this. It is becoming very frustrating. It instantly wipes off the cheeky grin I have after every drive. (Normally the grin lasts a few hours ))

Thanks,

Neeshil

Hi Neeshil,
There's another thread on this somewhere.
I have the same problem but only when I wear a particular pair of shoes, I'm never buying another pair of Florsheim again. I am now in the habit of closing the door with the leather key fob between me and the metal, that avoids the static shock.

yeah thanks... i did a search again.

I misspelled my previous search as 'statiic' so it didn't bring up matches :O

I might try finding that anti-static spray thingymajig.

When u exit keep your hand on anything thats metal on the car so u are grounded to the car and then reach for the door and close it. You shoulnt get a shock that way.

In some of the Asian car accessory stores you can find a keychain device that absorbs static. Some of them have little LCD windows with display bars that tell you when all the static is gone while it is held up to the metal keyhole. Had one for 3 months now...can't live without it. (about $7USD)

Yeah, they've got all kinds of shapes and sizes from the super-macho aluminum+plastic ones to cute translucent animals to very simple ovals/rectangles. Mine is a capsule with 3 bars/levels; and sometimes it has to touch the keyhole twice to dissipate all the static on really dry days (lots of them in SoCalifornia).
