United-Kingdom Broken Gearbox

Hi everyone,

well, i was driving around in my lovely coop. And all of a sudden it started to sound like a steam train, chugging its way around the roads.

*****, !!

It only happened in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. and the noise disapeared when the clutch was pressed in.

So i took it to the dealer, bear in mind the car has only done 24000 miles.

I took the service manager out in it, and he said it needed a new gearbox,

So they have booked it in for that, has anyone else had any problems like this, if so HELP ME PLEASE.

I have had so many problems with this little car, i am thinking of selling it after the gearbox has been done, cause i am so dissapointed.

Hi

I picked up my (new to me) 18 month old mini one yesterday,
after being told it would not be ready due to a couple of recalls on the car
but i was told i could have a mini to borrow (which was very good of them)

Anyway i turned up to pick up the borrow mini and my mini was waiting for me ,

i was supprised yet happy,

i asked what the recall was for and the sales guy told me it was for a new gearbox!!!

This worrys me a little the car only has 11k on it and a new gearbox already!!

Any thoughts?

Hi theminiv and minimattmarvel

If you do a forum search using gearbox as the keyword you'll see that this is a recurring problem.

The gearbox on my ONE went earlier this month after a couple of weeks of intermittent problems with 1st gear. Car is only 16 mths old and 11500 miles on the clock. Brand new gearbox fitted.

Check out the following thread -

Just out of interest what is the build date of your cars? M2 was told by his dealer that there was a batch of dodgy gearboxes after his car suffered a failure at 4,000 miles. His build is Apr 02 and mine is Feb 02. Two forum members who have had new gearboxes fitted have similar build dates on their cars.

Mine Was built Nov 01,

When i first had the car i used to rev 1st up to 6000 rpm, and it always made a realy loud noise, but 10000 miles later, it started sounding like Thomas the **** Engine!!!!!

My Feb 02 built MINI needed a new gearbox this past April. So far the new 'box is performing well...
