Electic Blue S Stress crack in Windscreen?

Hi All,

Ive noticed yesterday a small crack in the top center or my windscreen behind the rear view mirror. Im not sure how longs its been there as its hidden by the mirror from the driviers seat.
The crack appears to be on the inside of the glass, I cannot feel the crack from inside or outside the car so im guessing its actually inside the glass.

Has anyone got any ideas what could cause this, as its on the inside I dont think it can be cause by a stone or anything, I can only assume that it could be a stress crack.
I have done 17500 miles and would hope that a windscreen would last longer than that.

Do you think I could get it replaced under warranty? Has anyone else has this problem?

Thanks for any info

James

It's a common problem. Go to http://bridger.us/mini/ and search for "cracked" and you'll find a good article on it.

Hello,

Been a problem since day one, still around, although claims that strengthened a-pillars, and/or tougher glass will do the trick, have recently come to light. Tougher glass allegedly being retrofitted, stronget a-pillars being put in at the factory. Not entirely conviced about the tough glass retro fit, but the a-piller re-enforcement makes some sense for sure.

Try searching for wind* (www.mini2.com/forum/search.php) in the faults and fixes forum, and you'll find all you need to know...

Example:

There are many more, but those are some of the more recently posted/updated bits of information.
