| AWOL | Speedo Needle ticking ? Heres a strange one... Just popped out in my car at lunchtime and when I opened the door and got in I noticed that the speedo neddle was moving, bouncing up and down about 1cm and making a ticking noise, fuel gauge was moving a little too, when I shut the door it stopped, when I opened the door again it started again, tried the passenger door and the same thing occured... once id driven it then stopped it didnt do it again... weird no ?... Am already waiting for the dealer to get my car looked at regarding a gearbox issue will get them to check it out then... but before that has anyone else ever seen this ?... |

Offline | I had the same thing happen to me once after doing some work on the HU, turned the car on and off again and it went away, haven't seen it return since. Still quite odd though |

| I'm a world record holder | I have had this happen.. there are quite a few threads on it about. I took my car into the dealership and they told me the usuall... oh I have never heard of that one before!.. yeah right! They replaced the whole speedo console and I havent had a problem with it since.. they said they couldnt find anything wrong with the old one... but if they had never heard of the probelm before and they couldnt find anything wring with it.. why on earth did they give me a new one!... umm...someone is telling porkies I think! Offline | Starting to think your car may have been built on a friday afternoon Sorry mate I'm not 100% sure but something like this occurs when the battery is low. Have a search or look in the handbook. I think there is some warning of a low battery. Or maybe it is a hamster ![]() |

| I'm a world record holder | northandy, dont worry mate... that is exactly what mine used to do.... I have seen a few do it. The dealership that I went to said it ws something they have never seen before, I certainly dont believe them, I just think that they havent got a clue why it does it. Insist on a new speedo unit thing as thats what sorted me out in the end. Good luck Andrea Andrea aka 'Branston' Part of the 269 long world recording breaking convoy of Minis - March 2007 |

Offline | Mines started to do this ticking on the needle...not all the time though...if I turn the ignition so all the lights light up and then go out and then start it, it doesn't do it, but if I do the whole thing quickly it does..its like its stuck and trying to move..lasts for about 2 secs if that. Is this down to a low battery??,,or just a quirk that can be dealt with at the Service? Need to Order Very Soon...... |

| MINI2 Regular | Yep, mine has started to do this tonight. How can the battery be low, does this mean its dying?! Surely the alternator should be charging it? I don't do many miles and tend to have the HK stereo rather loud sometimes maybe its draining my battery and not having enough driving time to recharge properly? |

Offline | I think you've answered your own question there Mine had been off the road intermittedly for 9 weeks for RTA repairs, and not had a decent 'run' out anywhere only to and from work which is no distance at all, and what with the cold and wet weather lights, front and back screen on, wipers, stereo and heater on full blast don't help much ..I took it out for a 90 mile trip on Sunday..and not had the ticking noise since SaturdayNeed to Order Very Soon...... |
