Offline | Tailgate hitting parcel shelf when closing Has anyone had a problem with this?? I have to end up closing the boot really hard to get it to close as it catches on the parcel shelf everytime. I did do several searches but could not find anything, if it has been mentioned before could you please point me in the right direction, thanks Tom. |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | This sounds like a problem with the parcel shelf not being put in correctly. There's a fine line between it being in properly and not. Try taking it out and reinstalling making sure you push it in the slots hard. Sorted the problem I had with mine and now shuts perfectly. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| Mine's doing the same.. its a fault with the parcel shelf. You'll also get a rattle from it as well (known fault). Word or warning when getting it replaced though... there's a huge back-log of orders for this part (along with new door clips) as mine is still on order (3 weeks now!) |

Offline | I had the rattle and my old dealer put electritions tape around the 'prongs' to stop it. However that meant I then had the closing problem as it pushed the shelf foward. Current dealer has sorted it, though, by putting two big rubber cones on the outer edge which means it wedges nice and tight but still closes fine. Have a word and see if yours can do the same. M |

| World Traveler | As a tempory fix, I've found that folding the rubber stoppers on the underside of the parcel sheld so that the outer edge edges under the inner edge lifts the shelf just enough to clear the wiper motor housing. Mark ![]() Lifes a reach ... and then you gybe |

Offline | It is amazing the repeatability of MINI's problems. I have a 2004 MCS, with 2200 miles on it. The shelf used to only lightly rub the motor housing when closing the hatch. (i.e. when closing the hatch, the motor housing would touch the shelf, push it up a bit, then go under it, with the shelf resting above the motoring housing) Today, when I try to close the hatch, I was surprised that it bounced straight back at me. I tried several times, and the motor housing simply refused to go under the shelf, It hits the "bulge" area of the shelf square on, and simply refuse to close........ I checked the parcel shelf; it is in its slot, as far forward as it would go. I cannot figure out why it worked before, but would not work today........ I'm going to try to experiment with it a bit by bending the shelf; hopefully I can find a way to make it work. |

Offline | KatanaPilot, i resolved my problem, basically i knelt down behind rear bumper and watched how it closed and only one side of the parcel shelf was actually resting on the supports, so i just raised the side it was resting on with a piece of rubber and its fine now, i did both sides to make it look better, i also moved the latch (loads of threads on how to do this) which ment i dont even need to slam the boot anymore, its completely effortless. Just have a look to see how it closes then you should be able to find the problem. Tom. |

Offline | Thank you for your reply, Drippy D. I fixed my problem. After playing with it a bit I got the shelf to go above the motor housing. What I did was I flipped the shelf over, and put all my weight on it to try to bend it. The shelf was pretty stiff, but I guess I'm heavy enough to make it change shape. The bulge of the shelf now rests just high enough to touch the motor housing but not bounce the hatch back at me. I think I accomplished the same thing you did - raising the shelf a little bit. I hope this info will be helpful for those who may encounter a similar problem. |
