Exclamation Read This: Before Posting a Hiccup/Stumble or Yo-Yo/Surge Thread!

Due to the ever increasing number of threads on the Mini Cooper S problems of surging/yo-yoing and hiccupping/stumbling, I have felt the need to post this.

First of all PLEASE SEARCH and post in an EXISTING THREAD if you have something to add to the debate, or a question to ask about these subjects. Chances are, your problem, question, or comment, has been posted already!

Posting in an existing thread not only will help make it easier for new members to find all the relevant information in fewer locations, it also means all those who have contributed and/or subscribed to other discussions will get notification of your post, and be able to find your contribution or comments easily.

Lets try and keep MINI2 as useful as possible to others in the same boat, and keep new threads on the same subject to a minimum, it's easier to read a few threads with lots of posts on a subject than lots of threads with only a few posts each.

Thank you!

Get the JCW upgrade. No more kangaroo for me!! I wish I hadn't waited a year, but I am happy now that I have it. On top of that, when Otto's installed the JCW, they fixed the dash rattle and installed the new trunk striker (part number 51-24-7-154-635 - which I learned about here and requested), and I'm so happy about the lack of rattles that I've barely tried out the JCW upgrade!

--If I remember correctly it's the metal piece that your trunk latches onto when you close it. 03 and older models had a trunk striker that would not lock the trunk snugly. So as you drove you'd hear noises coming from the trunk as if it were not fully closed. New models fixed this problem, but some owners prefer to simply mod their striker plates with tape or other creative means. Hope this helps.

My MCS 05 sometimes goes through a 7-10 second puf-puf-puf exhuast hicupps with little RPM hesitation before it corrects itself. It is infrequest but mostly occures when refueling or stopping @ a red light. The car has 17,000 Kms only and has been doing so since day one. The local importer did not acknowledge the problem. Others said it is a normal thing for a MCS.
Please help

I have a 03 Cooper automatic and it really hates going slow and it kinda jerks along when going at a slow speed...
When its up and runnin' at faster speeds there's no probs!
It's weird!

I have a JCW 05 MCS and have found previously that when hitting higher revs or speeds then coming to a stop the car would almost stop with the revs dropping right down and the feeling of the car running on 3 cyls... At times I needed to put the foot on the gas slightly to regulate the idle rpm's...

As the car has gotten older (45000kms), the problem seems to have passed... I also removed the flap out of the JCW box as this was suggested as an air issue where car is all for air then at a stop back to no forced air nor an open flap... Seems to be fine now...

2005 MCS Chilli, John Cooper Works Kit S7070, AC Schnitzer pack. Modified JCW airbox - race style! 18" 225 Koya racing wheels, Eibach performance springs

Did this problem occur on Mini Coopers too? When i drove my old one hard up through the gears to 60mph it would often 'miss' or hesitate... This was more noticable when the engine was cold...
