Fuel gauge (again)

Noticed something last night. Filled up with petrol with my wife in the passenger seat. I put in about 2 litres more than when it clicks off so it would get somewhere near full.
When I got back in I noticed the fuel gauge was close to full but not quite. My wife said that from her side it was dead on full.
Could it be that it wasn't spotted on the prototypes 'cos they were left hand drive?

Mine is exactly the same (October build). You fill the car and it never quite reaches the full mark on the gauge. It is a fraction short. Then I find that the needle drops to 3/4 full within about 40 miles or so and then starts to drop a a less rapid pace !!.
Anyone any ideas ?. Would you be looking at getting the dealer to carry out the replacement sender/level gauge fix they know all about (but can never get the parts for)

.... ditto (September build), and no, I wouldn't recommend getting the dealers to look at this.

This is not the same as the faulty sender units which gave wildly inaccurate readings on some cars. Its just plain boring built-in bog standard inaccuracy.

thanks CrashandBurn
I haven't mentioned it to the workshop so far and doubt I will bother now. I know the wildly inaccurate gauges are ones which won't read over 3/4 full and give totally false readings which mine doesn't.....although I would love a gauge that would do something to help me get more than the 29mpg I get on a day to day basis !!! Ahh the price of enjoying yourself

Cool

Hmm...

MINXD is going in on Monday to have it's 3/4 reading guage replaced under warranty.

NP when mentioned to dealer & straightway sent off for new stuff.

Looking forward to it as it's a tad annoying to have the red light come on so early

Didn't stop the wife from running out of petrol last night though

Ouch. No damage to the engine as a result was there?

If the gauge reads 3/4s full after filling the tank to the brim, then it's faulty - so get BMW to fix it!

My August-build Cooper has always had this problem so it's gone into the dealer this week to have it looked at (along with several other bits and pieces which have fallen off or stopped working). Solution? Rather than fix the sender unit, they have decided to replace the whole tank. A bit drastic but apparently they've now cured the fault - so hopefully the newer Minis won't have the problem.

Cool

Well I don't think MINXD suffered any damage, but the wife was distraught

It was 22.00 in the pitch dark in the middle of nowhere

Just glugged some in out of a can, took her to petrol station & filled it up, so as any bits would get spread about.

Hope she doesn't do that again
