Offline | I have heard that the the External alarm system fitted as an option, when activated operates the head lights, indicators, wipers and makes the windows move up and down, resulting in discharged batteries if the system is not immediately de-activated. Is this just malicious rumours from over jealous "other car " manufacturers or is there any substance to this tech fault. Any comments! |

Offline | Didn't you know? Its BMW's way of making life for the car thieves a little bit more comfortable. Why bother going to all the trouble of smashing a window when you can just wander around a car park looking for a MINI going crazy, then gain access via the handily open window? I get the feeling you're talking about the 'magic windows' syndrome. This afflicted mine back at the start of January. Faulty ECU or sensors are to blame, although on its most recent return to the dealers they replaced something called the BCI (separate set of electrical faults). |

| MINI2 Regular | sounds like faulty retrofit of the alarm system to me !. The BCI that you refer to Crashandburn is the BC1 module (Body Control Module) which I have heard of being replaced on several cars to cure various faults with electrics although I believe that the self opening windows has been something to do with water getting into the door microswitches in the lock mechanisms or even a slightly too short bowden cable on the door lock systems in the door. |

Offline | Cheers Chip. I was wondering what exactly it was that they'd replaced. It was for a different set of electrical problems (which included non-opening windows, amongst others). For info, I've NOT had any problems with magic opening windows or my alarm since they replaced the ECU, ~9 weeks ago. |
