Offline | How do I reset the outside temperature gauge? I have dug around and could not find this topic, but apologies if it has laready been posted... Well, I fitted a new brushed aluminum lower grill this afternoon. All went well until I turned on the ignition and saw that the temp gauge was reading -40f (I assure you it wasn';t that cold). When I had taken the bumper cover off I had disonnected the temp. gauge rather than just pull it off its bracket - I am guessing that this made it have an issy fit and now isn't playing nice. What do I do to fix my problemette? Thanks |

Offline | We can end this thread - I may have been a little impatient with zippy and his temperature gauge - it has been three hours since I plugged it back in and now it is reading the right temp. Maybe it just had to work its way up there from -40f. So , the lesson from this - when you unplug your external temperature gauge and plug it back in it sets to the min reading (-40f - or I guess -40 c - both the same thing) and takes a while to get back to where it should be - so be patient. :-) |

Offline | Yep - the speed of response of the temperature display depends on the speed that you're travelling. When you're moving, the car knows that the air flowing over the sensor hasn't been heated by the engine, so it can display a pretty-much instantaneous reading, but if you're stationary, then it can't tell (the engine might still be warm from a previous thrashing), so it takes an average over a very long time period. It includes the initial reset value in the average. Don't ask me why. |
