Question Weird Turn signal behavior

At random times, I push the turn signal indicator for a left turn and the outside turn lamps will flash on the right side. It happens in dry and rain, cold and warm weather with the engine cold and warmed up. There seems to be no environmental factor.

Does anyone know what this is about?

The turn indicators are controlled by the BC1 body computer. I would have the dealer check it the next time you're in. Some of the early MINIs had problems where water could get into it and cause a "Christine" effect.

Don't bother with the dealer just yet. Lost count of the amount of people I've told this to but here goes again...

Disconnect battery. Leave for 10 mins to reset BCU. Reconnect.

Problem should no longer occur. Just the software getting screwed up in the BCU.

If it still happens then by all means take the car to a dealer.

This cure covers a whole range of strange electical faults over all models and years of MINI. This is also the first thing BMW emergency try for an electrical problem too!

Good Luck.

It was acceptable in the 80's
