United-Kingdom autoglass replacing a heated/auto wipers/auto dimming mirror windscreen??

Hi Guys,

Was wondering if anyone has any experience of using autoglass to replace a windscreen with all the above gadgets on it?

I've just noticed an 8 inch crack on the screen of my May03 Mini, and I think "Mini" insurance will only pay for a replacement if Autoglass fits it.

I've read some good reviews on here from people who've had regular windscreens replaced,
but I'd assume the jobs is way complex with the heating elements, and the sensors for the auto-wipers, the additional electrics for the dimming mirror etc.

I guess cars with all these extras are getting much more common, but how good are Autoglass and replacing all this stuff?

I am completely terrified that its all going to somehow end up not working or looking as good as when it came from the factory. Particularly the Auto-Wipers which work fabulously at the moment, and Id be really gutted if they somehow didnt work as well after the screen is replaced!

Do BMW still use Autoglass when it involves all the extra stuff? Am I being overly neurotic? :-)

I'd really appreciate any information or re-assurances from anyone whose had a fully loaded windscreen replaced!

many thanks in advance.

Take it to your dealer. It may be a stress crack. Some MINI's have had problems over the years with windscreens cracking for no reason. It's usually at the top left hand side of the screen.

If the dealer agrees, you will get it replaced for free.

By the way, Autoglass are good, They have replaced a screen (standard screen by the way) in mine after a rock hit it off a lorry on the motorway. Did a good job. They fitted it at work using a mobile unit.

The only downside is you loose the MINI logo off the screen, but mine was the same make as the original one though.

I would have thought autoglass know what they are doing as more and more cars now come with rain sensor wipers and heated windscreens...let us know how you get on though

I'm being tempted back to a MINI....
