Offline | Rattle on acceleration - Curious I know there has been plenty of threads with regards to rattles and mine will not be the last. When I bought my MCS last year there was a rattle that seemed like it came from the dash and was worse on acceleration. Took it back to the dealers and they said it was a known fault on the MCS. They said it was the hydraulic pipes for the power steering going through into the engine bay. Got it back seem to be fine. However with the window down and accelerating hard I could still here a rattle. Asked again at the Oil Service. Got it back said it was a bolt on a heat shield so they said they had replaced it. Anyhow still there but not as bad I wonder if anybody has had this same problem and if they know what it is. It is small annoyance but can't undestand why the just can't fix it. Apart from that eveythings been fine ....touch wood Dave ![]() |

Offline | Ye olde squeak, rattle and whrrrr post eh? Try this first, As you drive, hold one at a time the dash board panels as you accelerate to check for rattles. If it sounds like an area you can't reach, pick up a hiker to check as you drive. Sometimes something as simple as a seat belt tapping the door jam or a loose fuse box cover can sound like something under the bonnet. dr remulac |

Offline | tried that but with no success, still there. It definitely sounds like an outside noise. Already no where they other rattles are coming from just this one I can't pinpoint ![]() |

Offline | On mine it was the gear stick vibrating. When i held the gear stick the noise would stop. Took me ages to pin point it. I only mention this as to fix it the dealer said they tightened bolts on heat shield. |

| MINI2 Master | I've got ye olde rattles, whrrs and squeaks. Only done 900 miles in my Cooper so I'm going to wait at least another 2100 miles before I consider taking it in. Cars need time to bed in and settle down. The plastic is new and will expand and contract causing squeaks and rattles. |

Offline | I had to have my bonnet scoop/air intake on my MCS tightened the other day - nothing noticable in terms of noise and only noticed it when I was washing the car the whole thing moved! Apparently a common problem where one of the two nuts loosen - wouldn't like to say what would happen if it fell off into the engine bay whilst doing 70 down the motorway! |

Offline | [QUOTE=Mega Mini]On mine it was the gear stick vibrating. When i held the gear stick Funny that thats what they said to me as well. What was the problem in the end, obviously something external to the gearbox. |

Offline | yes they said it was the heat deflectors/ shields were loose and vibrating. I could not understand why i should be able to stop them vibrating by holding the gear stick tighter but they did fix it. However since subscribing to this post the vibrations have returned. Before it would occur at 3000 revs in third now 4000 in second. Again holding on to the gear stick stops this. I am taking it back soon and will update you on what they do this time. I can hear a small clink coming from the stick when i change gear and i think it may be this vibrating at speed. Ps Malky are you coming on the bristol to gaydon run on the 7th of march?? |
