On the chrome line that surrounds the windows, particularly the rear tailgate are getting tiny rust particles. This is on a 05 MCS with 3.5K !!!

Mine has rust under the paint on the leading edge of the drivers door. This is completely bizzare as my car barely gets wet let alone left out in the weather. MINI have said they are happy to fix it but now I'm going to have a door re-painted

Do you park your car in a warm garage? Putting a car that is not 100% dry (including all the nooks and crannies) in a garage will accellerate rusting. Also, some people put washing machines and tumble dryers in their garage and run them with the car parked in there as well. This creates a lovely warm, moist atmosphere that increases the speed of rusting.

Interesting ideas Andy. Yes I do put my car in the garage before it's dry. However, I live in the tropics pretty much, so in summer my garage would be coller than outside, and in winter it would only be a few degrees warmer than outside.

Where the rust is is an area that would be dried by a chamois anyway after washing
