Interior fan squeal

My '04 MCS has developed a most annoying trait; on very low speeds, the fan has a consistent squeal. Turning up the fan speed will make it go away momentarily, however, after a few minutes of returning to the slow speed, the squeak returns. When completely turning off the fan, the squeak becomes a chirping until the fan motor completely stops. Assume it's something to add to the list for the first service visit; anyone else experience this problem?

Yes....I've had the same problem for a few months. It's just noticeable with the radio off, and especially with the fan at position 1. I was waiting for it to get worse before taking it to the dealer, but will definitely get it looked at sometime under the warranty period.

I was worried how much they would have to take apart to replace the fan motor, and if I could get the noise to appear for the service tech.

If you take yours in for repair, please let me know what the outcome was.

Get it taken care of before the warranty expires. Removal of the fan motor requires dismantling the entire dash of the car including the front seats. It's about a 5 hour job. I was at my dealers a couple months ago. While I waited to have my car worked on I sat in the shop watching a mechanic perform this task. It's not something I'd want to tackle on my own!

My 04 MCS makes the same noise, most prevelant when in position 1.

Is it a very soft high pitched shrill noise? I think I hear it every once in a while, but probably not worth taking the whole dash apart unless it gets worse.
