Offline | Uphill On MCS I was going up a 35 degree hill on 2nd gear going around 20 mph. I then let go of the gas for a split second and engaged it again after which my car seems to have lost power and I started going around 7 mph even with gas fully depressed. Is there something wrong with my car? I have a Feb/March 2004 built. |

Offline | you have to downshift, maybe stay in second gear. From a stop try going up the hill in 1st gear, wait till you get to 3500rpm and then change to second. The mini is a heavy car, you might be losing to much foward momentum between gear changes. Does this sound like something you might be doing? ![]() |

Offline | There you go man, when Brutus was new, I noticed it lost a lot of momentum when going up hills here in San Francisco. It will eventually loosen up a little a bit and be more easier to drive up hills. also know that the supercharger is not helping with anything below 2000rpm. motor on! ![]() |

Offline | That happened to me twice just after I got the car. I was in a similar situation, on a dirt road, going up a steep hill, around a corner with a washboard surface. The traction control will stalemate you every time in those circumstances. The more you apply the throttle, the more wheelspin you get, and the more the ASC or DSC cuts the gas and brakes the spinning wheels. The only way out, is to apply the handbrake, shift into 1st, switch OFF the ASC and then release the handbrake and continue on. Now, anytime I approach a steep hill on a dirt road, I will have already switched off the ASC. The only feature of the MINI I absolutely hate is the manatory ASC on an MCS in the US--much to intrusive for my tastes. I would have ordered my car without if only it was possible. |
