remote keys not working

Well, at 1856 miles my first real problem has occured. The remote keys no longer work. I came out of Trader Joe's tonight and my MINI refused to open. I even tried my backup key and it won't work, which leads me to believe it's not the key itself but something on the MINI itself. This hasn't happened before, so it's fairly odd that it suddenly just stopped working. Has anyone encountered this sort of problem before?

Had something similar a while back - took about a dozen presses of the key button to unlock the car, strangely walking away (to get the spare key to try) fixed it never had any problems since.

Odly during this time it never seemed to occure to me to just put the key in the lock itself - must be getting too used to this remote locking

if it started working again it might be radio interference I have a friend with a fairly new jag that can not get his key remote to work properly at the high tech industrial estate where he works... but anywhere else no problem (Jeep your problem also might be this... someone using something on the key frequency or one of its harmonics near by and then stopping or moving further away by the time you got back) if it is still dead I would check the fuse and then to the dealer

Alas, for me I don't think the problem was one of interference as it also wouldn't work from my home a couple miles away from the location I previously mentioned. Unless there's something funny going on in LA..

I had this a few months ago - only have one remote key so couldn't test another. BMW thought that the key had "lost" its programming but in the end the key itself was replaced under warranty and now works fine.

Oddly, today the key is working again for the most part; it has only faltered a couple times. I probably should contact the dealer regardless and see about replacing the key.

My keys were doing the same thing I found out the battery in the key was slightlty poping out of it's holder in side the key. I took some eletrical tape and folded it up between the case and battery and it worked like a champ. I would chec your battery.
