Offline | My MCS is old of the oldest, a March 2002 build. Soon after delivery I was wiping off some "gunk" under the hood...on the paintwork...using acetone. I went right through the blue to the white base coat! This never would have happened on the bodywork with acetone. Yesterday I was using some "409", a household citrus based degreaser under the hood (bonnet) and it left spots that seem permanent. Anybody else experience anything like this? Ken Shapiro Electric Blue w/ Sport Package...first "S" delivered in Maryland (5/10/02) I've been everywhere but the electric chair...I've seen everything but the wind. |

Offline | I've notice the poor quality of the paint on the underside of the bonnet and around the boot / trunk opening. Just modern cars and only painting as much of the car as they have too. Other cars seem to be just the same. Not that that makes it any better ![]() |

Offline | Under the bonnet and boot is only base-coat. It doesn't have the clear-coat to protect it. Base-coat is pretty fragile and it doesn't take much to go through it; especially the newer water-based paints. I've had pretty good luck using SImple Green to clean under the hood of other cars, but never tried it on my MCS. For my MCS I just use the same car wash I use to wash the exterior. |
