Offline | FYI Rusting Pulley causing squeaking at cold start FYI for the few lucky individuals who may be experiencing the same issues My March 03 MCS (JCW fitted September 03) has now been in for service 3 times for the same problem ... squeaking (for lack of a better description) on cold start, not warm start, only cold start, but something that has gotten progressively worse and VERY audible over time First service, lubricated main belt, minor improvement, but squeak quickly returned Second service, replaced the main belt, major improvement, squeak gone completely, but gradually returning after 4 months Third service, root cause identified as a rusting main pulley apparently doesn't happen very often, but got the impression if left untreated could result in some fairly serious potential failures The third service is with a different dealership to the first two, so my perception of the first dealership has just dropped a peg or two. Morale of the story ... if your car is squeaking, particularly at cold start, get it sorted pronto, sounds like things could get nasty if you don't ![]() |

Offline | Hi M8, There is an issue with belt noise at the moment (denso alternators) all the dealer has to do is loosen off the alternator whilst the belt is still connected and then retighten it. The alternators are miss aligned at the factory. |

| only the brave! | i have a similar problem, i had a top hose water leak a couple of months ago, spraying water over the left hand side of the engine bay. On cold start up i get a dry rattle for about a second, then the usual belt squeak noise. Is there a possibility of the idler pulley/tensioner being rusty causing this noise, the belt was changed about 2months ago, so not that Warranty out now so not a case of shipping it back to the stealer!! |

Offline | Hi Guys, check out our GTT Twin Bearing Idler Pulley,GTT Tensioner Pulley,GTT Tensioner Stop & Drive Belt. Very quiet ,much longer belt life & protection for your tensioner assembly& crank pulley should it snap ![]() Yes the alternator is not dowelled to the block (how naff is that!) and relies on the bolts only, in there 'very baggy clearance holes' for position/alignment. Best Regards Roland Gt Tuning. ![]() |
