I've a Cooper, Oct 2002 model with about 12k miles on the clock.

Recently the tailgate warning light has been playing up, consistently lighting about 10 minutes after a cold start and remaining on, despite the hood and tailgate being closed and checked.

If the headlights are turned on, there is a single beep (like the low temperature warning) and the tailgate light begins flashing. Come to a halt and the light stops flashing; pull away and the beep sounds and the flashing begins again.

I've read of other random or intermittent warning light problems, but this seems too orderly, as if there is some problem that this combination is telling me about.

Does anyone know what it might be?
