DIY Broken windshield advice please.............

Rock came off construction truck and shattered my windshield. Now the thing is-

+Do I have to go to a dealer to get it replaced?

+A local guy says he can do it no problem BUT he can't put the same windshield in with the mini logo in the corner. It will be from secure-it or something like that.

Cost US dollars 375.00.

What do you think before I get hosed by somebody because I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Thank you!

There is a general Rule that i work by. Get a price from the dealer and see if I can have the same thing done somewhere else for cheaper.

Ring for a quote from the delear if there is a large distance for you to travel to them. After getting the quote ask say to them that a local guy can do it for 375 but you would prefer them to do the work, can they match the quote ? (only if they are more expensive).

I am known in my local dealership for getting them to replace many parts under warrenty ! But they are very pleasant about it all !

Its something you want to sort out quickly though as any cracks weaken the windshield quite a bit.

Thanks for the advice. The man driving the truck is now saying the rock didn't come from him. Of course it didn't.............................so now there's an investigation.

My windshield on my month old cooper was cracked today..... i'm really annoyed.

I was driving up the road when a grit spreader came the other way and was spreading/spraying onto my side of the road (i.e the other side from where he was). My car got showered with grit and stones - so i'm not looking forward to washing it tomorrow to see what damage has been done to my paintwork.

I hope i can get my dealer to do it for me.

And it gets worse...... Stone chips confirmed

Just put my car in the garage and another inspection has shown up some stone chips. So no doubt when i wash my car tomorrow, more will become obvious.

What would happen if/when i contact the council. Can i demand for the chips to be fixed because there is no way that my insurance will cover that.

Pricing

A local auto glass place will be doing mine for $270 including parts, labor, tax. Others have given me similar quotes, but this places has done Minis before.
