Offline | Loud Roar with the AC on I live in Texas and have run the AC on my Nov MCS the whole time I've owned it because I just leave the Auto AC set to 70. The car runs great and I never had a problem until 2 weeks ago. Now I can hear a much deeper roaring sound to the engine as I am reving up to the next gear. It is so loud I can't hear the supercharger. And it doesn't do it all the time. I drove around over the weekend for over an hour before it started making that sound as I moved from 1st to 2nd and 3rd in downtown traffic. Seems once I'm going, like on the freeway, I don't hear it. and If I cut off the AC the roar goes away. Is this normal for the hot months of the summer? or should I take him in to be checked? Offline | Does the tone of the roar rise and fall with engine speed? If so, it's likely to be the aircon compressor, or low refrigerant charge. If not, it could just be that the fan runs faster (louder) when the condensor pressure rises, which it will do if the outside temperature rises. |

Offline | Try a search for "ac howl" and you'll find you aren't alone. Mine's been howling for a year now. Best - Bodinski Last edited by bodinski : Jun 7th, 2004 at 10:43 PM. |

Offline | Thank you both! I feel better about it. Today our High was only 92 and he was running and sounding great! Last Monday, on Memorial day, my outside temp in the car said 104 and he sounded really different. I have noticed that when the temp is over 95 or 96 he makes the deep engine sound. "Mr Bridger" |

Offline | Pebbles I read something here on mini2 a few months back saying that a dealer had found that the noise is caused by the recirculate switch not closing or something...? It's still cool down here in Aus, so I can't test it, but next time your car makes the noise, try pressing the recirc button, and see if it has any effect? ![]() Interested to know how you go! |
