Offline | Help for "weak AC" I have been disappointed in the AC cooling ability in my 2002 MCS with auto climate control. I took it to the dealer last week and the tech said the AC measured 44 deg which was factory spec. I noticed that when I got the car back the temp was set on "low". I measured the AC when set on 68 deg with 85 degrees outside temp and it was 54 degrees at the dash outlet not 44 degress. So I cranked the knob back to "low" and the temp immediatly dropped to 44 deg. at the outlet. I had assumed that it would be putting out Max when set at 68 degrees when it was 85 outside but apparently I was wrong. Neither the manual nor the tech infromed me of this. Hope this helps those who have experienced weak AC. Bob 2002 MCS CR/W Bonnet stripes Last edited by Minibobm : Jul 11th, 2004 at 11:47 PM. |

Offline | Auto A/C will only go at max when its really, really hot outside, and the sun is fully shining. If your car interior wasn't at least 100 degrees (easy to get if you leave the car in a parking lot for a while) and the sun was shining (remember the sensor in the middle of the dash accounts for sun) I'm not surprised it didn't go to max at only 85 degrees ambient. I'm not sure of the specific requirements to force it to maximum cool, but it seems to be working correctly, even if its not the way you think it should work, so you may be stuck putting it on low if you want max output. Its probably no more effort then using the manual a/c, so maybe you'll be more satisfied with its performance now. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |

| The S stands for speed! | I would think that low would be the lowest point on the dial, thus, below the lowest number. My 4 runner is the same way. If I want it max cold, put it to low. We are not lazy, its just easier to set it as a specific temp and leave it alone, kinda like your household thermostat. Motor on |

Offline | I have found that since having my windows tinted the A/C is better able to cool the car. Also, have you ever noticed that when you have the auto A/C all the way down to "LO" it doesn't blow on your feet, but one click up to 60° it does? I don't know why that is, but I like a little air at my feet. Keep my toesies cool! ![]() Last edited by TulsaMINI : Aug 1st, 2004 at 02:41 PM. |
