Leather Seat PROBLEM

I have a problem with both of my front seats. The leather is not covering the whole of the base of the seats and the foam is showing through in the corners, next to the handbrake. Its not bad (worse on passenger side.) My car is 4 days old. Has anyone else had a problem like this? If so, what did you do about it? Is it a take back and change /do again? I am worried they may split. (i have the blue leather with orange stitching.) THANKS. Seat is also "sagging."

Haven't heard of that as a Mini problem, but I have seen it before in other new cars with leather. Somehow the leather was not cured correctly so after installation it shrinks a little in some places, and expends in others. Leather is supposed to do that to some degree (since it is animal hide) but not that much. I wouldn't play with it. Best thing to do while still under warranty is have the dealer fix it. You could try to apply some leather cleaner/protector to see if the leather will help, but it may be only a temp fix, and in 6 month the problem will still be bugging you.

On a side note, the Mini leather has been aging very well. I clean my about once a month, and after 18 months it still looks new.

I had poor quality leather on the front seat pads and the dealer got the ok from BMW to change this part of the seat under warranty - now v happy with replacements. Others have had this too, worth asking

The reason for the gap seems to be the leather has been cut to short/wrong angle at the stiching at the edge of the seats.

There seems to be affecting MINIs a lot at the moment... there are quite a few threads with people complaining about this.

But most of the time the dealers are saying this is normal and so won't fix it under warranty.

Good luck with it, hope you manage to sort it.

Richard.
