| "Just Like That!" | Windscreen No.3...but it needn't have been! (Sorry - bit of a lengthy story!!!) This time last year, my month old 2003 MCS was taken into Specialist Cars, Luton to have the plastic trim that fits outside, between the screen top and the leading edge of the roof re-fitted. At motorway speeds, the trim would be sucked out from its location and would look like some strange plastic handle! The dealer said that the screen had been fitted too low down, meaning that the trim was not located properly - the fix was to remove the screen (No.1), locate the trim to it, then re-fit both to the car (the original factory screen was refitted). That solved the problem, or so it seemed! Five months later, the screen cracked - something to do with me using it's heated functionality and the glass being cold and covered in ice/frost - the dealer (Sytner, Harold Wood) reckons there was a weak point induced by a stone-chip (there are several threads by others on this subject). Any how, my insurance insisted I went through Autoglass so, on the morning of Christmas Eve, Autoglass called to my house and changed the screen (No.2). The fitter mentioned something about evidence of where the upper external trim had been previously modified and fitted, but I thought nothing of it. Seven months later (two weeks ago) that ****ing trim started to lift again. I pushed it back into place, but it was no good, it was out after practically every journey. I called Autoglass Customer Service and they arranged for a fitter from Basildon (close to work) to take a look at it. When he removed the trim from my car, it became obvious what the previous fitter had meant by "modification", - a large percentage of the trim locating ribs had been removed with a knife. What this means is... Specialist Cars in Luton, HAD NOT completed a task on my car that they told me they would do, instead, they TOTALLY BUTCHERED one of my car's components and had stuck it back into place - externally you wouldn't have known! I can now only say what a great service Autoglass provide... Not only did they supply and fit a new upper-external trim, 2 new A-Pillar trims (one had been damaged in December during removal), but a new windscreen as well (No. 2 cracked during removal yeasterday) - at a cost of approx. £500 to Autoglass! Now, all of this was because their fitter had not renewed the trim back in December - he had re-fitted the butchered piece! But had it not been damaged by the dealer in the 1st place, there wouldn't have been a problem now! Anybody still with me?? If so, perhaps you can help... I am undecided about what action I can take against Specialist Cars. Any suggestions? ![]() UJ Club: GB064 |
