Unhappy Any one else had these faults?

Phew! finally managed to log on, pretty impressive forum isn't it. All those buttons and options, a bit like the new mini really.

Anyway, here's my faults and none of this namby pamby "Oh, my dashboard creaks when the heaters on" stuff. Has anyone had any problems with the power steering? A couple of weeks ago I got an intermittent fault with the PS, yes, intermittent, as in cutting out whilst I'm driving. Took it to the dealer, who couldn't replicate the fault, so they replaced the entire pump unit. Fortunately (if that's the right word) it appears to have packed up all together as of today, so hopefully I'll get something done about it.

The other faults were;
Water getting into the control box for the central locking on the boot, so the boot wouldn't shut. Handy that one, when your on your way to Lincoln for the weekend. Something else wrong with the central locking (allegedly) when we asked them to fix the boot while it was in to have the PS done (pay attention, I'll be asking questions latter). Oh, and a nice man jumped out of his car at the traffic lights to tell us a brake light had gone. Not just the filament, but the glass bit of the bulb had completely fallen off and was rattling about in the lens housing. Sorry, that last one was a bit namby pamby wasn't it.

Well I feel, so much better for getting that all off my chest, hopefully I'll sleep tonight.

Jumpy

By the way, it's less than 6 weeks old and done under 2000 miles.

tailgate

The tailgate latch doesn't require electrical assistance when closing.
Electrical faults could however stop it opening.
Sounds more like the latch adjustment rather than an electrical fault.
Kick your dealer up the backside about it while he's bent over straining to see the pas pump!!
Hope things get sorted to your satisfaction.
All the best.

Yes, welcome to MINI2 Jumpy. Sorry your first post had to be in here, but never mind.

Hope all will be sorted soon, and you can continue enjoying your MINI.

I'll jump in before anyone else does and ask what the build date is of your MINI. It can be useful to others if they have a similar fault(s).

Cheers

These boots are made for....

Hiya MiniGuy

Just a bit more info on the boot problem to make it a bit clearer. I always had a problem with the boot, but I just put it down to me being too gentle with my new toy. It always seemed to take one or two goes to shut it, but I didn’t think much of it. On the fateful day, as I was loading up the car to go away for the weekend, it really started to play up. I shut the boot, but when I turned on the ignition the solenoid actuated and it popped open. I tried this a couple of times and it still didn’t work, even if I closed it and left it for a minute, it would pop open. So, I took it straight to the dealer, with the boot on the latch, and told them to fix it. They said it was water getting into a connector and made a temporary repair using some water repellent spray and a plastic bag. I then took it in three weeks later (yes I had to wait three weeks, but that’s another story) and they replaced the central locking control box, situated by the passenger footwell. The also replaced and resealed the grommets around the accelerator and brake cables (or was it the clutch and brake cable or maybe the accelerator and clutch cable, I can’t remember) because this is where the water was getting in and dripping onto the control box. They also put the control box in a plastic bag, just in case. I hope it was an official Mini approved plastic bag, I wouldn’t like to think they used an old Tesco’s carrier bag. Anyway, it works fine now so as long as it stays that way I’m happy.

Hopefully, if I’ve done it right, there should be a picture of my car attached to this message.

Cest encore moi

Sorry Basil, forgot to reply to your message. We was told it was a February build, but who knows how long it has being sittings in a deserted airfield before that.

My picture didn't work, I'll try again.

ha ha ha, yes it did.....

There should be a build date stamp on the drivers side (RHD) suspension turret. Might help clarify, just how long it was sitting in that deserted airfield !

Hello viewers

Previously on this channel; Power Steering. intermittent fault. untraceable. new pump fitted. died (the power steering, not me).

Hot news just in; Fixed! Tenacious work by the service department at the dealer, found a loose connection on the fuse box. After several e-mails to BWM, they still weren’t satisfied and replaced the whole fuse box, just to be on the safe side!

The end.
