Offline | All modern cars do this ![]() The engine sometimes still needs cooling after you've parked up, so it will still run the fan so that the engine doesn't overheat ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime ![]() ![]() Unofficial MINI2.com bean counter |

Offline | i'm new here, but not new w/ the mini or other cars, i've had mine for 2 years almost and it's always been plagued with stupid problems. Most recently, the hatch (boot i think is what everyone else calls it) rattles horribly. and now i have this issue...the fan, stays on after i drive...that's usually normal to me as i do drive slightly hard. but the last 2 times have been different. The last 2 times, it's nearly drained the battery, and the LAST tiem it completely drained it. My fans stayed on apparently so long that it killed the car...anyone know what this could be? because as of right now it's my only form of transportation and i'd like to be able to drive |

Offline | Some others have had this problem. The thermal switch that decides the fan should be on has failed. It's not a difficult thing to fix. Until it is fixed, disconnect it when leaving the car. Malin |

Offline | Yes that is correct. In other words, the fan running when the engine is off is completely normal, right up until the point where it is no longer normal ![]() If your fan runs on for a few minutes and then shuts itself off in a reasonable amount of time, no worries. If however your fan stays running for a period of hours and drains your battery, not normal. |

| 03 MCS Pure Silver / Blk | Mine has done this on and off since last November. Strange thing is whenever I drive it to the dealership ( 1.5 hours away) it always fixes itself. I got real use to unplugging it every time I stopped (I rarely drive it long enough or far enough for it to go on... especially in November & December from the driveway to the garage when only 50 degrees outside). I recently had the expansion tank replaced because of it leaking. Since it was replaced, I know longer have the problem. But I won't consider it truly fixed until it goes through another winter. |
