Offline | The unthinkable has happenned, removing the obligatory "Mini Owners' ear-to-ear grin" from my face. Yesterday my one brokedown after playing up on the motorway. I was treating it gently it the middle lane at a steady seventy, as I'm still running it in (just 90miles on the clock!!), when the engine started to intermittently loose power and then get it back again. I left the motorway to as I was clearly becoming a hazard to other drivers, when the problem became more acute and promptly cut out. I managed to get to a lay-by and the yellow engine warning light came on (rather late in the day perhaps). I rang the Mini Assistance line, who despatched a recovery lorry (the roaming Mini specialist wasn't able to get to me so they just decided to have me towed wherever I wanted to go). I persuaded the tow-truck bloke to take me to the nearest Mini dealership where they immediately had a look at the car and diagnosed a fault in the CAT sensor. This took about fifteen minutes and I was at this stage very impressed by the service and set off on my way........only to get 200metres from the dealership when the car died on me again. They towed the car back to the workshop and that is the last I have seen of it. Mini assistance have arranged a hire car for me which I now have until monday. The Nissan Almera (!!) that has turned up has only added salt to the wounds! My five day old has let me down already and they are unable to diagnose the fault and have called BMW Technical Services in!! What I can say is that the Mini Emergency Assistance has been good, and hasn't cost me a penny. It took three calls to get anything out of the Dealer that has my car and they have no clue when I can have it back. How long should I leave it before rejecting the car? I don't want to drive a Nissan Almera for any longer than I have to!!!! Anyone else had a similar experience? Got any advice? |

Offline | yes i know that but this is my first car and its costing me a lot of money (we have insane tax in Israel for cars) so i want to make sure i am not going to be spending the next year cursing the moment i decided to make this purchase. are problems like this something that goes on with other new cars as well? meaning: no matter what car i get, will i always have issues? or do you think that the MINI is having a lot more issues than usuall? though i ordered my car from the actual importer who is the main BMW dist. here, and is known to have great service, I am pretty sure this is a new product for them and they wont have a clue how to address any issues that will come up - leaving me carless and moneyless very fast. so i am worried.. one of the main reasons i looked into the mini in the first place was because BMW has a very good name as a company that provides high quality products and service. maybe the mINI isnt their strongest moment though... |

| MINI2 Senior | Lorien....my MINI should arrive next week or the week after. ![]() It will be my first car too. ![]() These problems are things you here about with all manufacturers old and new - very very uncommon though. And with a company such as BMW who pride themselves on service we should not have to worry. Say for instance we did have a problem I would imagine they change the car as soon as possible for a new one and give you a loan car as they have done in this case! Don't worry! ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | I have had my (oops my Wifes MINI) for 6 days and it has been the model student despite doing over 450 miles since delivery (due to the Peaks Run) What a lucky Mini being run in over a variety of roads of the Peaks and the M1 motorway getting up there! Been good and haven't exceeded the 4500 RPM rule Toby |
