Offline | Windscreen Rubber Strip Hi, The finishing rubber strip along the join between the windscreen and the roof is loose and moves up and down. The dealer says the only way to definitely fix it is to refit the windscreen, which I would rather not do. Can it just be secured with silcone sealant or something similar. Does it have a function over just making the car look neat? Has anyone had this problem fixed and it has stayed fixed. I have read the few threads on the subject and no definite answer seems to emerge. Thanks for your help. |

Offline | screen The front screen and the finisher you refer to are fixed in place by robots using specialist glue. The only real fix is a manual screen change. However if the screen is water tight and you know what youre doing then silicon gel sounds quite a reasonable fix. My only fear would be that there could be an adverse chemical reaction with the existing sealant. I'd let your dealer do the fix. |

Offline | Thanks for the reply, That was fast. I sent you a pm about the problem and you had replied to the thread when I looked again. Thanks for your advice. Is the strip involved in keeping the windscreen water tight? |

Offline | We will have our windscreen (windshield) replaced next week by the dealer due to the crack we experienced several weeks ago. The dealer will obviously have to replace the rubber strip. I will let you know how it goes. However, before you seriously contemplate any work by your dealer, it might be wise to determine if the part(s) are actually in stock. We only had to wait 2 weeks for the windscreen. Bill Sz. |

Offline | finisher s/b - The finisher is basically just that, though it obviously keeps water out to a degree. The actual seal is the rubber based bonding paste that metal mickey and his mates stick between the body and the glass. |
