here's an interesting tid bit:

as posted by a reliable member of our local forum on 10/15/04:

"I've just gotten my windshield replaced for the second time and had to wait an extra month because MINI recalled all the uninstalled windshilds to replace them with a harder glass. Time will only tell if it's really fixed but so far I've not gotten any chips in the last month."
