Check the ducting leading to the glove box. Airflow or temp change could cause loose fitting to vibrate. Just a guess.

i've had this exact problem . the dealer told me that it is two parts of the dash board knocking together , to fix it all they did was put some padding in between . the problem has now gone away .

get to your dealer and they should fix it straight away .

I've had a rattle on the dash where it meets the 'screen. It all started after my dealer refitted the 'screen and now they have tried 3 times to refit the 'screen and cure the problem

I am picking the car up today from them as they have had it for 7 days to do a few repairs so fingers/toes/crossed I am hoping that everything is OK

topper pad

Sounds like the topper pad (the soft top part of the dash board) where it meets the plastic part of the dash midway. I've done a post on this before to explain the rattle.

Try "topper" in search to read the thread.

Your screen has been changed three times ??
Sure your dealer isn't pulling your leg?? Screens don't rattle and if he thinks they can he shouldn't be near your car!!
What's he doing - taping them on ?!!

cheers MINIGuy I'll do a search for topper.

Yes, each time they have had the car, which is now 3 times, they have taken the screen out and refitted it or thats what they tell me, it is a rattle/squeek/scratching noise that is coming from the corner post where they glass meets the plastic trim and "topper" panel.

I have now stuffed some fabric material into any gaps that I have found to deaden the noise, as the tooper panel does not fit flush to the glass on the drivers side but it still rattles/squeeks/scratches.......and is taking the enjoyment out of the car. So a stongly worded letter is called for as they are now not answering my phone calls

panel

The plastic top panel that you mention should not be flush to the glass at any point. If it is touching the glass somewhere then that'll be the problem. This would be caused by incorrect dashboard fitment. This is not as drastic as it sounds and is easily rectified. Well then again with your dealer.....
No really I think i'm being a bit unfair. The dealers do know their stuff mostly and i'm sure yours is no exception.
They are obviously trying very hard for you.

One thing, at least you probably hold the record for the most MINI screen replacements in the entire world!!!

I do hope your car is to your satisfaction soon.

thanks for your concern. I have just had a call from my dealer and they have done some digging to find the problem and they believe that they could have found something so my Cooper is going back to them next week for them to have it for 2 days and thoroughly check it over, remove and replace parts if needed.

They do sound very sincere that they want this problem solved, which is nice so I am slowly convincing myself that I will have a rattle/squeek free MINI very soon...........

Big shout for Sytner/Leicester

Just got the Cooper back from Sytner/Leicester after my trials and tribulations of rattly dash.
They took the Topper panel off the dash, placed/replaced a felt panel strip underneath, took the roof lining off and repositioned and touch wood, everything seems fantastic and as new so a big thank you at last to my dealer for getting it sorted and I think they may have learnt a thing or two about this potential problem.
Also my car has had a squeeky drivers seat, but that didn't really bother me, but lo and behold they have cured that as well so again thanks guys

I can now drive off into the sunset and only hear the roar of the engine as it is meant to be and start enjoying the car again.

Phil did this stop the creaks/rattles that you hear when the heater is on?

Cheers

LMB, yeah it sure did The only rattles I have now are when I put CD's in the passenger door pocket and they move about when bombing around corners
