Headlight gone, is this an easy bulb replacement

Apologies if this has been answered here before, but as I am on the web at work , not got the time to search through and am looking to get down a dealer this afternoon. But before I get a load of waffle from them wanted to check here first.
Headlight low beam (haven't checked high) has gone on the driver side. Is this a straightforward bulb replacement ?

Xenon or normal lights?

Easy job on normal Halogen bulbs probably not covered under warranty so just do it yourself.

They will almost certainly be H7 bulbs if they are not Xenon lights - you might want to consider swapping them out for the 50% brighter Osram Silverstars or Philips Vision plus (see the Autoexpress product report for more info)

The bulbs are straightforwards to replace, but a bit fiddly simply becuase you have to work "upside down" under the bonnet!

Good luck

Normal lights. Ok sounds like the usual fiddly bulb replacement. Where do I get these 50% brighter ones from ?

Ok idiots question here, I'm up on the above mentioned website. H7 bulbs are listed for what I need. Is the same bulb used for high and well as low beam ? As the same bulb is listed for both

...and you can always swap out one of your main beam lights into the blown dipped beam, so you don't get pulled over before the new bulbs arrive.....

Excellent idea, just ordered them online, I shall be lighting up the roads of windsor soon with my new bulbs. hmm, I might stick them into the main beam lights.

According to the Osram/Sylvania website (which only goes up to 2004), the low-beam headlamp bulb is an H7 but the high beam is an H9. This seems to contradict what has been said here, which is that an H7 is used for both applications. Is the info on Osram's website erroneous? The reason I ask is that I just arrived home after buying a pair of Sylvania Silverstar H7's for my 2005 U.S. spec Cooper S Convertible. I didn't buy 2 pair because the Sylvania site said the H7 wouldn't fit my high-beams (and they don' offer a SilverStar series H9). Can anyone clear this up for me? Is this a U.S. vs U.K. difference, or is Sylvania just wrong? Thanks.
