OBC DIY retrofit warning

Just thought I'd share some advice with you budding DIY electricians....

My car has been back at the dealers all week (our of warranty) because it's had a flat battery on two occasions over the weekend. This has been an ongoing problem which was looked at many times during the warranty period and I've had new batteries, bc1s and a fuse box out of it.

Unfortunately, the problem has been tracked down to the wiring which was used in my DIY OBC fitting - not offical parts. Because I didn't have the correct connector for the rev counter plug I pushed the wire alongside the existing one and strapped it together using a cable tie.

This has been perfectly OK for a long time and I can only assume that this wiring was dislodged after the steering column was replaced a little while back.

Bascially I'm now faced with a bill (Labour only thanks for the nice dealership) of over £500.00.

I got off likely with the cost as yesterday I was told that the running total was over £1000 due to parts costs (2 bc1 units).....

I'm pretty annoyed, but it's my own fault so I can't argue with them. I wish I'd bought the official retrofit kit now, it would have been cheaper, I've told them to remove to wiring that's there so I'm back to square one.

I was stupid and I paid the price. d'oh.

the MINI has gone...
